16 Days Uganda & Rwanda affordable Safari

Rwanda popularly referred to as the land of a thousand hills is a beautiful country whose terrain is generally hilly. It is best known as home of the endangered mountain gorillas which live within the verdant forest of Volcanoes National Park. With this Combined Safari, you also have an opportunity to visit Uganda, a country with amazing attractions ranging from nature, culture and wildlife. While in Uganda, you will discover the beauty Queen Elizabeth, where we will see the climbing lions of Ishasha to the gorillas in Bwindi. We will marvel at the beauty of the landscapes of Uganda and Rwanda and end this trip from Kigali international airport.

Itenerary

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa

On your arrival, the Great Trekkers Safaris’ representative will welcome you to Uganda at Entebbe international airport then transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. While here, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the breeze from the fresh waters of Lake Victoria, the 2nd largest lake in the world. Overnight stay at Pineapple guest house. Day 2: Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After an early breakfast, we will drive to Murchison Falls National Park. The journey is a magical adventure with a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary route to track Rhinos. Your ranger guide will brief you after which you proceed to trek Rhinos in the sanctuary. After this fulfilling experience and photo session, we proceed to Murchison falls National Park arriving late evening for dinner & night rest at Pakuba Safari lodge or Fort Murchison lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Game drive and Boat Safari on River Nile

Murchison Falls National Park is the biggest National Park in Uganda and offers fulfilling game viewing. The game drives start early morning right after breakfast which increases the chances of sighting different animals especially the predators that tend to go into hiding during the heat of the day. The game drive happen in the northern bank of River Nile, where we look out for giraffes, elephants, hartebeest, Buffaloes, Leopards, Lions and different bird species. In the after-noon, the safari will continue on River Nile – Nile boat safari towards the mighty Murchison falls. The relaxed boat safari provides more opportunities for spotting a variety of animals and birds and falls from. You have an opportunity to watch the falls from below. Do the hike to the top of the falls. Return your lodge for Dinner and Night rest at Pakuba Safari lodge or Fort Murchison lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Drive to the Chimps in Kibale Forest NP

Today we depart for the primates capital; Kibale National Park. Kibale forest is home to 13 species of primates with the main attraction being chimpanzee tracking and bird watching. The journey to this tropical forest passes villages and colorful road markets. Lunch will be en route or packed. Late evening arrival at the lodge, check in have dinner and Night rest at Isunga Safari lodge / Kibale Forest Cottages. Meal plan -Breakfast Lunch Dinner

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking in their natural habitat

Chimpanzee tracking is a fulfilling adventure that takes you deep in the tropical forest with streams of water and abundant wildlife. You will start with a briefing from the ranger guide about your chimp trek. On your trek, you might have sightings of red-tailed monkeys, black-and white Columbus monkeys, butterflies, and birds calling from the canopies. With the help of your ranger guide, you will locate the chimps. Enjoy picture moments and watch them as they play, groom, and feed. After lunch visit Bigodi swamp – a community project known for its rich diversity of birds and primates depending on the availability of time. This community project is involved in providing employment for youth through tour guiding, some of the proceeds go into establishment of schools and teachers pay. Day 6: Kibale – Lake Mburo National Park.

After your early morning breakfast, we’ll check out of the lodge and transfer to Lake Mburo National park. We will stop-over in Mbarara at Igongo hotel for Lunch before proceeding to visit Rwenjeru community camp site for a Ankole cultural experiences. You will meet the Bahima pastoralists and get to see how they graze their long horned ankole cattle and later we drive to the lodge. Dinner and Night rest at Rwakobo Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 7: Lake Mburo Safari

Early morning after breakfast, we will take a game drive through Lake Mburo National Park. While on the drive expect to see herds of Zebras, Giraffes, Uganda Kobs, several bird species, Buffaloes etc. After the game drive, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch. Alternatively, there is an option for packed lunch from the safari lodge. In the afternoon, we will go for boat trip on the Lake Mburo where you will see lots of Hippos, crocodiles and many bird species. Dinner and Over night stay will be at Rwakobo Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 8: Lake Mburo to Queen Elizabeth national park

Early morning, we embark on a road drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park making several stop overs en route at Kyamuhunga tea estates, then at Lutoto crater lakes for a photo experience. We later drive directly to the Lodge, have a hot lunch and after which we shall do a community walk up to the twin lakes. Over Night at Twin Lakes Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 9: Game Drive & Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth national park

We will wake up for an early morning game drive with an informative ranger guide who will help you search and point out wild animals as he/she leads you to the various habitats of the game. Later have lunch at the Lodge before taking on a boat-ride on 40km long Kazinga Channel to see birds, semi- and aquatic animals that rely on the channel for their livelihood. Dinner and Overnight at Twin lakes Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth national park – Ishasha sector

After our breakfast, we drive to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth in search of the tree climbing lions. They are often seen in the vicinity of the camp which is situated just off the Northern circuit game viewing track. Later, utilize the network of park trails to explore more of the scenic beauty and rich wildlife of this remote parkland bordering the Congo. Dinner and Overnight at Enjojo Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 11: Ishasha to Bwindi forest

Early morning, transfer to Bwindi forest national park from Ishasha sector of QENP with a chance to have a glimpse of the famous tree-climbing lions. Arrive in the evening, check in have dinner and get ready for your gorilla adventure the following day. Dinner and Overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Camp. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi forest

Today is the long awaited day! Early morning preparations for the activity, pack lunch, attend briefing by the Ranger-guide, get hold of a walking stick and follow the Ranger to the Sanctuary. Maximum time allowed with the fascinating Gorillas is one hour. Spend the rest of the evening visiting the Batwa community and return to your lodge for dinner and Overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Camp. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 13: Bwindi forest – Lake Bunyonyi

After the morning breakfast, check out of lodge and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi arriving later in the afternoon. Check in, have lunch and later we do a boat cruise where we get to visit several islands on this lake. Return in time for dinner, camp fire and Night rest at Arcadia Safari lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 14: Lake Bunyonyi – Akagera National Park.

Today we’ll transfer to Rwanda crossing through the Katuna border. Stop at the crossing point and have some ink added into your passport and we later drive through the amazing slopping hills of this beautiful country stopping en route for Lunch. We later transfer to Akagera National Park arriving late in the evening. Have Dinner and Night rest at Akagera Game lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 15: Extended Game Drive and Cultural experience

Get ready to enjoy extended game drives across the Akagera game park. While on the game drives expect to see lots of animals including Impala and topi, with eland, oribi, Masai Giraffe, waterbuck, reedbuck, bushbuck, sable, antelope, bird species among many others. Return in time for lunch and spend the rest of the evening a guided walk to rural communities for cultural experiences. Dinner and Overnight at Akagera Game lodge. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 16: Akagera National Park – Kigali International Airport.

After our morning breakfast, we will check out of Akagera game lodge driving through the game park. Depending on the flight schedule, you will be transfered to Kigali International Airport in time for your flight. Meal Plan – Breakfast and Lunch
